Outstanding success for Collingwood Primary

Collingwood Primary School has become the first outstanding school in the city to have its status maintained by Ofsted under their new regulations.

The school was judged to be outstanding in September 2006 because of the excellent standards across the school and high level of education it offers pupils. A recent interim assessment has shown that the school’s performance has been sustained and that the next inspection can be deferred until September 2011.

Under the new Ofsted regulations, an outstanding school can retain its status without having to undergo another inspection, as long as Ofsted are happy with all their reporting procedures and outcomes. There are eight other outstanding schools across the city who could also benefit from Ofsted's new rules.

Estelle MacDonald, Headteacher at Collingwood Primary, said:

“We were delighted to receive the letter from Ofsted and that they are pleased with our progress. The governors, teachers and staff at the school are incredibly dedicated and I would like to pass my thanks on to them, as well as the children and their families, for continuing to make Collingwood an outstanding school.”

Judith Harwood, Head of Learning, Participation and Skills at Hull City Council, said:

“I was thrilled that Ofsted have recognised Collingwood’s progress, the headteacher and staff there are highly professional and have worked hard to maintain the schools high standards.

“I hope that many more schools in Hull will follow their example and show that schools across the city are improving.”
